Health & Safety Technician – Devon

My client is a provider of Social Housing, based in Devon.

Due to growth in the Repairs and Regeneration department, they require a Deputy Principal Designer – Health and Safety Technician. The ideal candidate will accept the role on a full time, permanent basis, however other options may apply.

The main purpose of the role is to prepare and provide clear, consistent and quality CDM and Health and Safety support in relation to all operational activities undertaken by the Repairs and Regeneration Department.

Responsibilities:

To develop, implement, and evaluate Repairs & Regeneration’s technical policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
To support and help the Principle Designer on all allocated projects and lead on minor projects
To provide appropriate advice, guidance and practical support to Repairs & Regeneration’s Managers and employees in relation to all CDM.
To consult with trade union work place Safety Representatives, undertake joint safety inspections and attend Health and Safety Committee meetings.
To assist Repairs & Regeneration’s Management, undertake risk assessments, workplace inspections and manage audits.
To provide readily understandable interpretation of CDM legislation and codes of practice, EU Directives and best practice to Repairs & Regeneration’s Management.
Ensure changes to legislation, codes of practice, that will impact on Repairs & Regeneration’s policies and procedures are identified, and ensure systems, policies and procedures are revised to accommodate such changes.
To identify where CDM and Health and Safety management practices can be improved and assist Repairs & Regeneration’s department in implementing solutions to facilitate improved performance.
To organise and prepare the Repairs & Regeneration’s department for external audits that will include Gas Safe, NICEIC, Audit Commission etc.
To participate on tender evaluation and contractor selection processes as required, providing ongoing advice to supervising officers on the competency of contractors to undertake works.
Undertake on site monitoring on contractor and in house staff to determine compliance with legislation, risk assessments, method statements and other safe systems of work.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will be have demonstrable Health & Safety experience which validates at least Tech IOSH status, combined with evidence of developing CDM functions.

In addition to the above, the successful candidate will hold a NEBOSH certificate with a P405 asbestos qualification being desirable.
