DISC - Understand Your Behaviour Style - WISH North West

Hosted by the vibrant Carmen Parkinson from the Business Clinic CIC Preston at our WISH NW supporters office Forbes Solicitors in Preston, we explored the science behind DISC behaviour types, and how those behaviour types interact with each and how we work best.

Carmen explained the what DISC stands for and how it can be used as a tool to measure four primary behavioural traits:

  • Dominance (D)
  • Influence (I)
  • Steadiness (S)
  • Conscientiousness (C)

The group of 25 ladies each completed a questionnaire which generated their behaviour type. The group was then split into these 4 different behaviour types.

Through open discussion we explored each DISC type as individuals and some of the topics we covered were:

  • Increase self-knowledge: how you respond to conflict, what motivates you, what causes you stress and how you solve problems
  • How people could improve working relationships by understanding the communication needs of other team members
  • How as a team leader or project leader you could facilitate better teamwork and reduce team conflict
  • Become more self-knowledgeable to help individuals to become well-rounded and effective leaders

Feedback from the workshop included:

“I enjoyed the relaxed nature of the event. The atmosphere was great, everyone was having a laugh and still being able to discuss sector issues and network together. Everyone was lovely and I think the organisers did a cracking job”
