WISH Cumbria have had a busy start to the year hosting a great event to mark International Women's Day 'my journey to the top'.

November Event – Embracing Change

Our November event was a huge success with a fantastic session from Janet Richmond, Management Consultant and owner of Just Libra.  Janet had a wealth of information from her career experience including senior roles within HR and heading up Learning and Development with Barclays Bank, Organisational Development with two housing associations, as well as managing several customer service and training departments.

Janet helped our group understand how change is implemented and provided us with some really useful tools and techniques to manage our own and others reaction to change.  Good communication is essential throughout the process.

We had a brilliant mix of attendees for the event who work right across the social housing sector from housing officers to solicitors, surveyors, local council officers and property maintenance company.

Beth Nicholls, Chair of Wish Cumbria said “Janet was an excellent facilitator, she really helped us improve our understanding of change and how to manage it for others and most importantly how to protect ourselves through these often difficult times.  The session was fun and interactive whilst being insightful and interesting”

Pictures:  The eggs sparking some interesting discussion, you can’t have change without breaking a few eggs.  Some people feel like they’ve been scrambled by change but you want them to feel like Soufflé.

MARCH EVENT – MY JOURNEY TO THE TOP

Our latest WISH Cumbria meeting was held on Friday 8th March and was planned to co-inside with International Women’s Day 2019.  It was held at Penrith Rugby Club where members heard from inspirational women who hold roles at the head of two very different Cumbrian organisations. WISH Cumbria hoped our guests would be inspired and motivated in their own career journeys; feedback gave an overwhelming yes!

Entitled ‘My journey to the top’, guests were given a real insight to achieving personal and professional success. Speakers included Justine Carruthers – Founder and Managing Director of Penrith based Traybakes Limited and Julie Monk - CEO of Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

It was evident that both speakers have a passion for what they do – and having listened to each of them talk about their own personal journeys, it was clear that they shared some of the same skills and beliefs even though they come from two very different sectors.  Both Justine and Julie have grasped every opportunity that presented itself to them as they developed their careers and it has definitely paid off.  They both have a huge respect for their teams as they are the driving force behind them and their business/organisation.

We have been delighted with the incredible feedback we have received from those attending our recent events and it’s been lovely to welcome lots of new faces.

We look forward to meeting you soon at our future events!
