WISH London Summer News 2022

WISH London held another successful event recently, ‘Going Against the Odds in the Built Environment’. The theme was gender inequality and barriers to women entering the construction industry.

Even though the number of women working in construction is growing, men still make up the great majority of the workforce. Only about 14% of construction industry professionals are women at the moment but this number is likely to rise as more women opt to work in the field. Thankfully, stereotypes about gender roles are rapidly eroding.

We had two fantastic and inspiring speakers from the industry: Countryside Partnerships' Chief Executive, Jo Jamieson and L&Q's Group Director of Development & Sales, Vicky Savage. Both addressed the barriers that women often encounter through sharing their personal stories and experiences. They also provided useful strategies for overcoming these challenges and achieving success in the construction profession.

If you missed it, you can check out the recording on our YouTube channel accessed through the WISH website or by clicking here or on the image below.

We would like to thank Countryside for their kind sponsorship of this fantastic event.

Key takeaways from the event were these motivational quotes:

"Get comfortable in your own skin"

"Always do your job with passion"

"Push yourself to do something you have never done before"

"Set yourself goals"

"Deal with difficult situations in a timely way"

"Be hardworking"

"Be authentic; always be yourself"

"Be resilient"

"Women should try to help and support other women"

"Be brave"

"Being a disrupter can be a good thing!"

"Failing is human; try to learn from it"

"Set boundaries"

WISH London are now looking forward to our Summer Drinks networking and knowledge sharing event 'Wisdon of Networking' taking place at Rider Levett Bucknall on the 14th July 2022. For more details and to make a booking click here or on the image below.

This is a charity event with proceeds going to “The Girls Network”. Their mission is to inspire and empower girls from the least advantaged communities by connecting them with a mentor and a network of professional female role models.
