WISH Yorkshire & Humber Region Summer Newsletter

Gone are those winter blues with the summer season finally here. (Well maybe, it is England after all!) We hope you've enjoyed the events with us so far, for those who couldn't make it, here are some of the highlights

Resilience workshop with Ken Perry

Turning up to the event and we was welcomed by numerous piles of Lego, our curiosity had been spiked (more on that later).

The session was opened and we discussed what kind of people were the most resilient, we agreed that everyone deals with situations differently but some people may react better than others. The attendees shared their hints and tips on how they deal with situations and were open and honest.

Now onto the Lego – this was used to demonstrate the stumbling blocks we come across in life. The artists showed their skills using the Lego to demonstrate “hitting your head against a brick wall” and also how they would love to be on a sun lounger with a cocktail…..or five.

We also practiced mindfulness, practicing breathing, movement and body. As a group we decided that the perfect opportunity during the day to take some you time is while you are making a brew. So the moral of the story is, if you are stressed have a brew!

Ken and his merry men kept us entertained throughout the morning and helped us to reflect on what makes us happy. Thank you Ken!!

CV Writing workshop

We were delighted to benefit from the expertise of Anthony Taylor who took the group through the process of ensuring The Perfect Job Pitch. Insightful, practical, and future focused the workshop looked at how to create a CV that will get you the interview. Members expressed increased confidence during the session as the practical tasks got people thinking about what they had to offer and how to recognise transferable assets.

Some wonderful ‘Marmite’ examples and real life experiences got the group talking and sharing. This ensured a fun learning environment with everyone taking away something of benefit and understanding the work and preparation required to help them make that next step. A very successful workshop and one to be highly recommended to others.
