WISH Yorkshire & Humber - Secrets to Success

On the 12^th September 2019 WISH Yorkshire and Humberside held a fantastic event called “Secrets to Success” at Capsticks LLP’s offices in Leeds City Centre.

We had three absolutely fabulous speakers sharing their secrets to success and had a lively discussion session afterwards. The morning got off to a great start with friends and colleagues in the WISH Yorkshire/Humberside area catching up over coffee and tea before the session started.

Following inspiring welcomes and introductions from Kam Urwin (Chair of WISH Yorkshire & Humberside) and Rachael Heenan (Senior Partner at Capsticks) we started the session with Tina Drury, Managing Director of Your Homes Newcastle presenting on her career and experiences. Tina’s session was funny, inspiring and thought-provoking, reminding us all that we do not need to act “like a man” to get ahead and entertaining us with her stories from her career in the social housing and public sectors.

Our second speaker was Lisa Geary, Partner and Head of Capsticks Leeds office. Lisa provided us with an honest and motivating presentation on her journey to becoming a partner and reminded us that we don’t need to have everything “perfect” at all times – success means different things at different stages of your life so be proud of your decisions and what makes you, you.

Finally we were lucky enough to have Jenny Baines, Customer Partnership Manager at Accent Housing talk to us about her career journey in housing, her brilliant experience of the GEM programme and how housing for her is more than just a job. Jenny was engaging and reinforced to us all that having solid support systems and mentors are key to having a successful and thriving career.

Everyone who presented and spoke were incredible and the buzz in the room was fantastic – so much so that we ran well over time with questions! After the session we all relaxed and got a chance to chat and network with some lunch.

Overall it was an inspirational session where people really came away with practical tips for success so a huge thank you to everyone who presented, contributed and attended. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
