WISH Yorkshire & Humber - Spring Newsletter

We've gotten off to a flying start for 2017! We kicked off the year with our New Year New You event and are looking forward to our Step Out and Speak Out Event coming up next week!

With lots planned and growing membership, we’ve got plenty to be excited about.

New Year, New You

This inaugural event of 2017 was well-attended by WISH members wanting to improve self-confidence, build networks and achieve goals this year!

Emma Walker-Cotton of Causeway Consulting led the session and encouraged attendees to look at their own careers paths, identify barriers, and find ways of developing themselves whilst remaining authentic.

Feedback from the session was positive, and we’re looking at doing more events with a similar theme this year.

Step Out and Speak Out

We’ve just held our fab session with Claire Young, which looked at: Personal branding, generating opportunities, entrepreneurial tips, and business success.

Made famous by her role as the highly-driven runner up of series four of BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, Claire set up her own business ‘School Speakers’ which is now the UK’s No. 1 speaking agency working with schools, colleges and universities to provide talks to students. She also works within the media as a journalist and radio presenter, in addition to advising the government on projects which help young people and women into business.

The session was well attended and feedback has been really positive.

Social Events

We knew that everyone would be de-toxing in January and avoiding those naughty treats for a while, so we’ve not had any social events so far in 2017, but we’re currently exploring plans for a cocktail making masterclass, a meal out, and a trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park. These informal events are a great way to network in a no pressured environment, and have loads of fun, too! Watch this space for details of our next social events to be announced soon!

Board News

We have had a change of Treasurer in the past month and would like to say a massive thank you to Jacqui Dyer for her time and support over the past year. Jacqui will remain on our Board but Epiphany Kidd (Yorkshire Housing) is now our new Treasurer – so a big welcome to Epiphany! Speaking about her appointment to the role, Epiphany said: “Excited to be able to support WISH Yorkshire and Humberside by being their treasurer, it’s a great network to be part of.”

In our last newsletter, we told you about our new Brand ambassadors, who’ve joined us as co-opted Board Members and have been working hard to improve the reputation and presence of WISH, and work with other Board Members on coming up with ideas for and organising events. They’re a wonderful addition to our Team!

What’s next?
