WISH North East raise over £2k to help Smart Works support more women into work

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2020, WISH North East brought together nearly 150 housing and associated professionals to raise money for local charity Smart Works.

Smart Works supports local women back into work, helping them to gain financial independence and transform their lives. Their service offers free interview clothing and coaching and they aim to empower each woman by giving her the confidence she needs to succeed.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EachforEqual and WISH North East celebrated at their IWD event at Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham.

Chair of WISH NE, Caroline Gitsham, said: “We were delighted to be able to celebrate our third IWD in the North East. Equality is not a women’s issue; it’s a business issue and it was great to see such a brilliant turnout from across the region to champion the #EachforEqual agenda.

As a Board we are proud of our achievements, especially our events programme which creates opportunities for people to come together, support the agenda and make a difference. It was fantastic to raise much needed money for a local charity which supports the wider community.

I’d also like to say a huge thanks to our sponsors Hive.hr, Society Matters, Family Fund, Disruptive Innovators Network and Karbon Homes.”
